Remote Assistant FAQs

What does it mean to be a 1099 contract worker?

1099 employees are independent contractors who provide services for business owners. 1099 workers are considered self-employed, and they are hired for specific tasks or projects for a specific business. These positions can be short or long term. As a 1099 contract worker, you are responsible for your own benefits and for paying your taxes.

We will cover all of this during your explanatory consultation meeting.

What would my schedule be like?

That is totally up to you! Do you like having structured, consistent hours throughout the week? Do you need more flexibility where you are completing projects around other things in your life? How many hours a week do you want or need to work? All of these questions are things we will speak to in your exploratory consultation.

Are you a typical headhunter?

No! But in a good way. Mills and Mae Services provides the connections to the business owners. Then you, as the Remote Assistant, sign a contract directly with the business owner. Mills and Mae Services is the third party consultant and coach. We believe that things run smoother when the assistant has a positive and direct relationship with the business owner.

This means we do not take a portion of the assistant’s contract.  Unlike most headhunters, we want to be an objective third party when it comes to ongoing coaching.  Mills and Mae Services works off of flat one-time fees.  These fees cover the behind-the-scenes work of making connections, including networking.

Can I work for more than one business owner?

During the exploratory consultation, we dive into all of the details of what you are looking for in a Remote Assistant job.  This includes finding out how many hours you want to work per week, and also, what your income goals are.

If, for example, you are needing 10 hours of work a week, and we find a business owner that can offer you 5 hours of work a week–then Mills & Mae Services will work to find you another business owner to cover the other 5 hours of work per week.  This is all completely covered under the one time flat rate fee.

Do I have to have any training? Or experience?

Yes and No. The thing that most business owners are looking for in an assistant is someone that is willing to learn and is invested in what they do. Yes, skills, experiences, and trainings are beneficial. But the awesome part about the way Mills & Mae Services connects assistants and business owners is that we take the “it’s all about who you know” model and do that networking for you. So, once you get connected to Mills & Mae Services you are connected to a wide pool of business owners.

Would I be an employee of Mills & Mae Services?

However, Mills and Mae will always be there to provide coaching as needed.

What if it doesn’t work?

Mills and Mae Services helps write the contracts between business owners and the assistants. We always write a 90-day trial period clause into the contracts. This ensures that if the business owner or the assistant decides the connection isn’t working, both parties can come back to Mills & Mae to ask for new connections.  This comes at no extra cost for either party, and it is covered under that original one-time flat rate fee.

How much money do remote assistants make?

United States remote assistants make between $25-$35/hour.  This is dependent upon the level of work skills you possess and the industry involved. This is something Mills & Mae Services will discuss with business owners during their free initial consultations.
